The Heartbeat Symphony is an interdisciplinary and collaborative work of performance art that exposes human physiology as an instrument to inspire empathy and amplify our shared humanity.
Heart-rate monitors worn by each dancer shape the music in real-time. Each dancers’ heartbeat becomes a unique sonic identity, reflecting their physiological and emotional state. Natural variations in heart-rate create evolving polyrhythms and phase shifts, making each performance a unique experience.
This work was developed from the short form experimental excerpt, The Heartbeat Sketch which premiered at Boulder Ballet’s Dancers’ Choice (2025).
