The Heartbeat Sketch

The Heartbeat Sketch is an exploration using real-time heart-rate and motion sensors on the dancers’ bodies to turn human rhythm into sound, uncovering another layer of physiology. The solos are derived from the same choreographic material, but become two completely different experiences.

For part one, heart-rate data was recorded during rehearsal and integrated to drive the overall tempo of the recording – performing in the shadow of past physical exertion.

This work was developed as a short form experimental excerpt, soon to be expanded into The Heartbeat Symphony.
